High School Girls Flag Football (Grades 9-12)Recreation / YouthWelcome to our first year participating in the Minnesota Vikings High School Girls Flag Football League! Girls flag football is rapidly growing in popularity and will be an event in the 2028 Summer Olympics. There will be an informational meeting for potential players on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 6:30pm in the high school lecture hall. Team Formation and Participation: The league features high school teams from across Minnesota, providing a competitive and supportive environment for girls to showcase their skills and passion for football. Hastings will have a varsity team and possibly a JV team pending interest, coach and scheduling availability. TRYOUTS - In the event there is significant interest this season, tryouts may be held to determine placement of athletes on our teams. Team placement will be based on tryouts and not all athletes will be placed on a team if there is significant interest exceeding available roster space (max of 25 people can be on a varsity roster). Team placement is also subject to change throughout the season. Tryouts will take place the first scheduled practice April 1st from 6:30-8pm. If an additional tryout time is needed, April 6th may be used for additional player evaluation. Evaluations will follow a written system with multiple coaches to ensure the process is fair, transparent, and objective. To support all athletes in this process, we will have a few pre-season learning sessions without an evaluation component. These sessions will act like a practice in order to introduce essential skills, rules and concepts so athletes can approach potential tryouts with confidence. These pre-season sessions will take place on Monday, March 23rd from 6:30-8pm & Monday, March 30th from 7-9pm ahead of any potential tryouts. A refund will be processed for any athlete who is not placed on a team. Game Schedule: Regular-season Varsity games take place on Sunday afternoons* starting at 4pm, featuring double‑headers on: April 26th May 3rd May 10th May 17th If there is a cancellation due to lightning, games will be played the following Monday afternoon. Playoffs will begin on May 31st, leading up to the State Tournament on June 8th at the Minnesota Vikings TCO Performance Center. Participants are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the games. Coaches cannot provide transportation for the players. Jerseys will be provided and must be returned at the end of the season. Mouthguards are required at practices and all games. Participants will be responsible for purchasing their own mouthguards. To be legal, mouthguards must not include any attachment(s) that do not serve a purpose and function in protecting the teeth or mouth. (no pacifier looking ones, extra bling, etc.) Athletes will not be allowed to participate until they have a legal mouthguard. You must have a current sports physical on file with the high school athletic office. Pre-season sessions will take place on Monday, March 23rd & Monday, March 30th from 6:30-8pm.
